Interview with Peggy O’Mara on Simplicity….`

Editor, Mothering Magazine

Editor, Mothering Magazine

As many of you know we have been an avid reader of Mothering Magazine for many years. It has helped us in so many ways in our first 6 years of parenting.  As you can imagine, we are incredibly excited to hear Peggy speak as one of the keynote speakers at the Healthy Families Conference on April 18 – 19, 2009 in Vancouver, BC. Our friend Sarah at Mama Renew was fortunate to interview Peggy on just some of the important issues that affect all of us along our natural parenting journey. Over the next few days, Sarah will be sharing with us articles on the related themes of Building Community, Simplicity, and Nurturing Families.  Her first article on Simplicity, reminds us to slow down and appreciate just how beautiful the simple things in life are. You can read more about Sarah’s interview with Peggy O’Mara here.

I would love a chance to hear Suzanne Down on Imagination, the Key to Thinking.  As both a parent and an educator.  I think puppetry is fast becoming a lost art whose value within the school system is underrated.  (Although the whole conference sounds fantastic!)  I would hope more public school teachers will be attending and I will do my best to spread the word!

I´d love to hear all the speakers, their good ideas and resources to parenting in a healthier way, not only physical but emotional; just knew mothering magazine and I´m grateful that finally found the light after the darkness, because one thing takes you to another and feel that I´m in the correct path to a healthier parenting, an integral development of a family and my children are enjoying this new stage in our life.
Besides being a mom 24/7 would BE GREAT!! and revitalizing to spend a night sleep only with me during 8 hours! and have a date with myself :D

The Healthy Families Conference looks like an amazing opportunity to be inspired by incredible women and gain fresh ideas on enlightened parenting. I love the community that has been building since my children were born, and look forward to bringing more joy into my children’s lives as a result of what I am exposed to at the upcoming conference!!

What is a night away from home mean to you? What if it means the days before and after you spend with like minded folks pondering how to enrich your homelife. You then will return to your nest renewed and inspired, with pockets full of ideas to add to life in your home. And if you are a teacher or caregiver the same is true. Imagine any space where children are cared for as relaxing and happy, with everyone engaged in work and play, together creating an atmosphere of warmth and joy of life. This conference will give you tools and strengthen who we are as commnuity. Please come and I will guarantee you will return home with more sense of who you are and what you can give to the children and your family.

I’ve stumbled upon your conference at an interesting junction in my life – we’ve recently moved into a “new” neighborhood (new for us) having left the one where my son was born and where we were very closely connected to families we met when I was on maternity leave. At the end of this month I’m also embarking on a new personal adventure changing jobs after almost 9 years of working with an incredible community of colleagues (sometimes you need to scare yourself a little so change seems like the theme for this year). I value community immensely, and I hope to begin building new connections in our new physical space and my new professional space, while continuing to nurture our own family community – we continue to journey together creating it in our own special way. Your conference sounds like a wonderful space to continue this conversation and listen and learn from others; and a night away is the welcome opportunity for unhurried reflection (and inspiration!) that working mama’s dream of :)

Hi dear Peggy! I’m a breastfeeding advocate and a IBCLC, I work with Doctors, and RN”s at hospitals, were I wish there was more Breastfeeding support. I more than often get very frustrated about the great ignorance and luck of support I deal with among many heath professionals!! (very sad!) I come out with an informational 2 page flier, that has being very helpful and well accepted in the hospital were I work. I will love to share it with you,( no profit is involved at all). My wish is to make it available to educate and benefit more people. Please let me know how to send it to you, if you are interested. Thank you for all you do. Keep up the good work!! Norma
