Elf Sod House
Barbara Meihuizen is a garden designer on a mission to create enchanting gardens for families with children.
“I want children to feel the magic of being part of the living and growing space that a true garden is. The playhouses, sandboxes and climbing structures that I custom design, are never placed in the middle of an empty lawn, but are nestled in the shrubbery, or surrounded by a flower or veggie garden.”
These gardens are so magic that even fairies and elves want to make them their home, and sometimes small houses appear in them!
With a Certificate in Garden Design from UBC, Barbara works in cooperation with a playground builder and a landscaper to either develop a DIY garden concept plan or do the full install of the various play structure and landscape components.
As for her larger vision: “It’s my dream to also work on designing natural playgrounds for daycare centres, schools and parks. And though I’m Vancouver-based I’m always up for projects elsewhere!”
